Public Transit

I have a love-hate relationship with public transit. Yes, if you're looking purely at the dollars, it's cheaper. But is it more valuable than driving?

Sometimes it's scary to do all the math for comparing transit to driving, but keeping it simple will give you a clearer picture.

Gas, maintenance, insurance, and depreciation usually cost together between $0.35 to $0.45 per kilometer. Compare that with the time it takes to get you where you need to go using transit vs driving.

Even if you decide to keep driving after you determine that it takes longer and is more costly, at least you'll be aware of this. Ignorance is wasteful.
